I am close to 65, poor, have prostate cancer, after treatments, PSA is Zero, how & what I should get medicare?
Otherwise, I am healthy. My steady income is only $600 from Social Security, maybe get a little help from relatives. I live in San Francisco, CA. how and what the medicare coverages are necessary for me to get?
Thank you very much.

I am also near San Francisco. San Francisco has a health plan for all residents to sign up for but as a senior you should be on Medicare and Medi-Cal instead. Call any senior services organization or social services in S.F. county for information.
$600 a month from Social Security qualifies you for SSI which is Social Security supplemental benefit. In San Francisco that means they would give you a supplement to your Soc Sec so your income in S.F. county would be $861.
You also can qualify for Medi-Cal which covers the balance of medical expenses not paid for by Medicare. Go to Dept of Health Services or county Social Services to apply. California will pay for your Medicare Part B monthly premiums if your share of cost is zero or if you are under $500 a month share of cost.
Once you get Medi-Cal you can join Kaiser and they waive the membership and co-pays.
